I thought of doing this same thing with the last head unit I had, never got to it but from what I read it didn't seem like there would be any problem obviously as long as only one was being used at once.

If you have the same cone area in the same box (if I understand correctly that is what you are doing right?) I don't see either of the subs being much louder if your amp is turned all the way up. I could be wrong maybe others have more insight.

That amp is rated at 1200 rms from 1.5-4 ohm so I wouldn't recommend running it at 1 ohm unless you really have to. I would go with the dual 4 ohm version and run them at a final load of 4 ohm. This way if you decide to change amps in the future or sell the subs they will be able to wire down...

Whatever sub you choose, if you are only running one sub, I would get a dual 2 and run it at 1 ohm. Just to be sure you have enough power because you can always back down the gain a little bit anyways.
