It really depends on where your friend wants to put the cash. Does he want clean balanced sound or does he want to blow the windows out of the drivethrough? If it were me I would balance the money I spent on subs and comps after wiring and H/U. If you figure wiring and H/U will run you about...

I have CDT ES-620s. I installed them for 1 week to see how they sounded. They sound great, just not as good as the Q series. Make an offer if you want them.

I didn't see them listed, so I am going to toss in MBQuart QSDs. They are wonderful speakers. When I had them set up in my living room I prefered them over B&Ws. They have enough bass response for classical and jazz. They won't move enough air to give you pounding bass on rap, though.

I am an MB Quart convert. I tried DA Hexes, CDT ES-620s and MB Quart QSD 216s. Those QSD comps are unbelievably clean. Speaking of which... Anyone need a set of ES-620s? I broke them in and listened to them for a week on reference material. They sound great, just not as good as the MB...

You can pick up the MB Quart QSDs for about $600. a bit out of your range, but they are absolutely gorgeous sounding speakers.
