Could the small black wire be the ground that connects to the old rca cables or something? In the instructions on my old kenwood, it has a screw that is used for this, although I've never seen a ground on an RCA so what do ya think? Richard

Well since no one answered me, and in case anyone else needs this info and searches, I'll answer my own question. I would recomend to anyone installing these to provide at least 3/4" clearance in front of the speaker, preferably one inch. Wow, they jump Richard
