Hey guys, new to subwoofer building and could use some advice. Keep in mind this will be my first true subwoofer building project. It's mainly for the experience of doing the work myself and learning as I go. Bought a extra Kicker solo x 18" motor/basket yesterday for 100 bucks. I would like to rebuild this motor into a 12" subwoofer for daily use on music, not competition or anything of that sort. 12" basket- what one would hold the weight of this motor and function well? Anyone have one FS? I understand that new moles may have to be drilled, should the motor be drilled and tapped or should I drill new holes in the basket? Spider(s)- as stated earlier this will be used for music. I believe around 2k rms. With the high bl capabilities of this motor should I use stiff spider(s)? Or maybe you have other recommendations? Coil-need to get exact coil measurements still. But without having those at this moment... should the coil be the exact same size as original one. What is the benefits of boring out the magnet gap, only higher power handling from the ability to use a thicker coil? Or does it also effect other aspects? I have many other questions but I'll stop here for now. Any information is appreciated. I understand some these might be noob questions, please keep in mind I am very new to this and willing to keep an open mind. Thanks!
