I've been told that if you have a HO alt installed and if your starting batt dies and ever got a jump, you must be extremely careful for the next several minutes. If the engine rises above idle rpm, the alt will start to send gigantic amounts of current to your almost dead battery. If you have a 300A alt for instance, it will try to send all of it's power to your battery which will end up killing it because that is too much current to charge a batt. The best thing to do is keep the rpm as low as possible and that way is to just keep idle for a while. IF you get no output at idle, barely rev it up and keep it there. Alts max out at 2k rpm engine rpm so it doesnt take much to be at risk.
