Almost every waking hour i spend on my baby....stripping off the old paint...getting her ready for her new suit. I thought there would be alot of rust on her since she is 26 years old now--81 Cutty--but the more paint i strip the more clean american steel i find. Anyways, this is still early in the process for a worklog but i just had to post some pics. Enjoy!!

In the pics....you can see that i stripped the vinyl top due to popular demand

I also removed the bottom chrome rocker panels due to the rust buildup under them

Removed rear 1/4 windows to completely remove paint/remnants of vinyl

removed center trim up the middle of the hood, a little bondo and some sanding=gone

Car will completely naked except for small amount of filler when she gets to the paint booth.

Having the bumper skins dipped and rechromed, also the headlight bezels, and door sill plates.

Due to factory vinyl, i have to go find a rear window trim from non-vinyl car and buy the clips that holds in on. Then must take out back window, drill holes for rivets and rivet the clips in place for new trim.

And all that = new cutty.

Lots of work, paint racing stripes on it //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/tongue.gif.6130eb82179565f6db8d26d6001dcd24.gif
it will...2 silver stripes on trunk and hood.....not the roof tho---that looks gay IMHO

Looks like you will be well rewarded for your efforts once it's done.

Keep up the good work. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/thumbsup.gif.3287b36ca96645a13a43aff531f37f02.gif

Did it have the 6cyl or a 307 in it?

it's got the good ole' 231 in it, but by the time i'm done it will have twice the stock power rating...somewhere close to 220 at the rear wheel

A buddy of mine took a 231 (sourced out of a Regal about the same year as your Cutty) and stuffed it in a '78 Toyota shortbed p/u.

He did some pretty major internal work to it, found him a 4-barrel intake and topped it with a smallish (400cfm or so) Holley 4bbl. Backed by a turbo350 tranny with a Fairbanks Stage 2 shift kit it was a pretty gnarly ride.

There's alot more there in those 6cyl motors than many people realize...

look into a rebuilt 305.. Friend of mine just dropped a rebuilt 350, racing trans, rear end and racing headers in his 81 Monte, its body is in noway as straight as your cutty's.. its gonna be a nice project.. Do hyradulics..wut color or future plans you got?

Noooooooo hydralics are soo played out. If anything it'll be bagged on just 20"s. This car is way to clean to be choppin up for hydro's. And a properly built 231 will outperform just about any 305. Its the same base block heads as a buick grand national. If i were to upsize, the best cost to power would have to be a 350c.i.d. motor

Nice! I am gonna have to subscribe to this one being I had a pretty clean 85!

What color you going with? I am not so sure about the racing stripes myself.

I like that you took the vinyl off, good idea. I wish I though of that myself.

Have fun!

gonna go with house of kolor prism blue pearl, silver stripes and these rims 20"

Nice rims! Can you say Chedder!

Kind of remind me of my Panther Juices I had my cutty. Here is a pic of her.

As you can see, it needed repainted, but was original paint from 85 and the drums needed replaced, which I had them, but car got stolen. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

What would be your cost savings per unit having your coils wound in aluminum instead of copper? Can you quantify the efficiency (or dB) gains...
