New car, Eclipse HU not working

Hey caraudio, sorry to be missing for so long.

I just sold my old 1993 SHO and bought a 1991 the very next day. It's a nice ride and has the stock JBL audio system, but there is a problem with the Eclipse HU that was installed by a previous owner. The ESN light is on and it flashes an 800 number that does not seem to connect to anyone. After a little 'net research, I found out what the ESN system is, and so my question is this:

Is there any way to get the ESN reset so I can use one of MY CDs? There is an Eclipse dealer in town here, so I can take it to them if that is my best bet. The car had its battery replaced by the dealership, and that apparently is what triggered the ESN to go off.

Thanks,

Dave

There is no such thing as a master reset cd. You will have to go to the authorized dealer and fill out a ESN change of ownership form to identify you as the new user. Next the dealer will have to obtain the rolling lockout code and serial # to give to Eclipse. Eclipse will then give a new rolling unlock code to get the cd player operational again. This code only works once and never again on any model cd player. This blanks the unit and will allow you to code the cd player with your own cd for use in the future. Make sure that you do this. This is what makes an Eclipse useless if the unit is stolen or battery disconnected as you have just found out. If the cd player is an old old old model then it will have to be sent back to Eclipse to be manually reset to factory default.

Thank you for the replies. I went to the dealer today and found out there was no master disk. I still have a couple days until I bring the car back here, so I can get the ball rolling on the reset.

forbidden - what you're telling me is that once the lockout code is used to reset the deck, it can never, EVER be used again? That kinda seems silly... but what would I know. Maybe it wouldn't seem so silly if the dealer hadn't started cramming CDs in there to trigger the ESN lockout.

That is correct, it is a rolling lockout code and is defferent every time. Thus the same lockout code can never be used again. It can be reset again if needed, sorry I should have mentioned the rolling lockout code part. The reason behind this is that then anyone could use your code to unlock any Eclipse cd player. Rolling codes = different for every cd player and every time it locks up = the best secutiry system there is. Yes the dealer should not have been cramming cd's into it, time to find a new authorized dealer.

Nah, I think it was the car dealer. The guys in town here are a small shop but I trust them to know what they are doing. Besides, they haven't even seen the car yet. Gotta go home and bring it back up to school.

Okay, the deck is unlocked now! I have a few more questions:

1. Does anyone know whether or not the JBL sub amp for these first generation SHOs can be run off an aftermarket HU? I am getting crappy, tinny bass from this setup and I assume the second 6x8 drivers under the rear speakers are not functioning.

2. Can anyone tell me the procedure to set another key CD? The dealer has no documentation.

Thanks,

Dave

Sorry about the bad information about the master CD. That is what I was told whith mine. I only install systems, I do not sell them.

Seeing I am doing this at work I will go and try to find my owners manual tonight at home. I looked on line and could not find the owners manual. If you need a copy you can contact Eclipse and they will send you one. Granted it will cost you a few dollars, but with all the options the radio has it is worth it.

I would also download a program called clone CD. I made 3 master discs for mine. This program copies bit for bit information off the CD, so when the HU looks for the information on the CD it can find it. Now I know I will not loose my CD, or have one of my kids take it and loose it.

That being the case, check out eBay. There are similar models on there with the same trim piece.
