i'm just curious...i know a bit about car audio but one thing always has stumped me....what does R.M.S. stand for?? i know this probably sounds like a stupid question, i mean i know what it is but what do the actually letters stand for?

LOL.....i haven't heard many people on here question your commments so it's highly doubtful your wrong.......and if you are i don't think anyone would correct you if you were....i've only been in this forum for about a month, and it seems like you, rangerman,mark ab, and alaxan are the godfathers of this forum so if one of you say it....we (your people) will follow...............j/k..

Root mean square (rms) is, literally, the square root of the mean of the square of a value. It is a process for calculating an average value for a fluctuating value (such as ac voltage or current.) The term rms power is referred to as the average power. A power amplifier rated as having "200 watts rms power" really puts out 200 watts of continuous sine wave power.

Straight from sounddomain.com...pretty much exactly what Ramos said, an average.
