Sealed or Ported for 1 12" Eclipse 88120DVC

Ok here's what i've got:

1 12" Eclipse 88120DVC 500w rms 1000w peak (2x4ohm)

1 Memphis MC1000D 600w rms (2ohm)

I've searched around for info on this for over a week. I want about a 50/50 split with SQ/SPL. Eclipse recommends i put the sub in a small sealed enclosure in the range of 0.5ft³ to 1.0ft³. I want to hit the lows and have some hard thump. I'd also like pretty tight bass. So my questions are: Should i stick to sealed or try a finely tuned ported/vented? Will it not do well in anything other then a seald box? Thanks in advance!

Specs:

88120DVC

Size: 12"

DC-R: 3.1ohm/coil

Fs: 27hz

Qts: 0.30

Vas: 3.20ft³

SPL: 89.4 dB

Qes: 0.322

Qms: 5.0

Sd: 0.0511M²

Xmax: 1.30"

Displacement: 0.10ft³

I had the 10" model, and I never ported it. At first it was in a pretty small (~.75 ft^3) in the spare tire well, and it didn't really go too low, so I put it into a larger box, probably almost 1.5 ft^3, and it played crazy low, and still had awesome SQ. When I got the Titanium 12, I put it in the same box at first, and it didn't play the lows nearly as well as the 10" did until I ported it. The Titanium has quite a bit larger motor though, which made the box a little smaller.
