Sealed or ported woofer box?

I have a 91 Dodge Stealth. The trunk in only 9 inches high. With the spare tire take out i get alot more room. But I dont' wanna take it out. People are saying ported boxes are better than sealed boxes. But they take up more room. I have 2 12inch Rockford HX2's. I found a sealed box for $70. It will fit perfectly with keeping the spare. I can keep the spare too. But my friend is saying ported are louder but take up more room and I would need to get it customized. So it would cost more money. What should I do? How much louder are ported boxes than sealed boxes?

Id say 1 12 ported is almost as loud as 2 12s sealed, given the same power. With a sealed box (acoustic suspension) you get tight well defined bass and a nice flat frequency response. A ported box(bass reflex) will play much lower and louder with less distortion at lower frequencies. I think 12s sound better in a ported enclosure. That just my opinion. It depends on the music.

why dont you make your own box instead, are those subs "punch" or "power" hx2's, also what kind of music do you listen to

i say port if you're in a large Sedan if youre running 1 sub
