You can wire 2 vc's (rated @ 1ohm each) in series for a load of 2 ohms. You can do that for the other 2 vc's too. After doing that, you will have the equivalent of a dual vc sub 2 + 2.

You're talking about the ratings for your sub. What is the RMS output of your amp? Wiring the sub in series will double the impedence and cut the power output of your amp by half. Twice the resistance = half the power.

Here's an example. The first amp I looked at on MTX's web site - Road Thunder 251D Class-D Amplifier

Specifications:

RMS Power 14.4 VDC Input

Hi Level w/ Smart Engage

Low Level Input

Crossover:

18dB/Octave, 85 Hz

2 Ohm Load 200 w x 1

4 Ohm Load 100 w x 1

Dynamic Power 14.4 VDC

2 Ohm Load 250 w x 1

4 Ohm Load 125 w x 1

Notice how a two-fold increase in ohms cuts the watts in half?

But how much of a difference? I don't have any birthsheets on me at the time, but the difference isn't going to be too great. The principal is that it's halved each time the resistance is doubled, and of course small fluctuations are probable to occure.

Not true ...
Name one amp where the power is actually halved when impedance is doubled (and not rated output, benchtested output) ...
You just like to cause arguments! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

Amen!

damanTO81: Are you confused yet?

All this bickering isn't helping you. Look at your amp manual and it will tell you the rated rms for a specified ohm rating. My advice: Go with that!

if he knows what i said was wrong he's right to correct me as i am learning also

Inversely; Name one amp who's power actually doubles when impedance is halved //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Internal losses and increased heat usually results in less than a doubling of true power output.

Well, he knows it is TECHNICALLY wrong, as it is. But its a moot point... I mean, we could get into alot of things here, like how that extra couple watts that Jmac is arguing would be inaudibly louder //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

who is correct:
Jmac or Squeak or both???
Both, they are basically talking about the same thing: "outside" factors effecting power output of an amp, making those rule of thumbs TECHNICALLY wrong //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

2x 4 ohm coils can be wired parallel to 2 ohms or series to 8 ohms. There's many amps with 2 ohm power you can use.

It mostly comes down to weight. You can have a super lightweight cone, soft suspension and aluminum coil on a sub and you pretty much get a pro...
