I'm new at this and i was wondering how you could wire 2 Dual voice coil 2ohm alpines to a mono channel amp. I found a JBL amp that is a 600 mono at 2 ohms and i really like the amp so if you have any ideas leeme know. Also I wanted to built a ported box for it. Does anyone recomend that or shoould i just buy one. And for a dual box. Should the box volume be twice the volume of one or will there be some overlay thus making the volume smaller. Lemme know. And does any one know where i could mount the amp in a '92 taurus. I know it could go anywhere but somewhere cool. Thanks.

Wire your subs the following way. Each sub has two voice coils. Hook the - from voice coil 1 to the + on voice coil 2 (series circuit). Do the same to the other sub. Looking at each sub you should now have 1 + and 1 - unused on each sub. Wire the + from sub 1 to the + on sub 2 and continue to the + on the amp. Wire the - from sub 1 to the - from sub 2 and continue to the - on the amp (parallel circuit). This will read as a 2 ohm mono load at the amplifier. I am not an Alpine dealer so I will not comment on the possible box designs available for your subs.

Well do you want it to get loud? or get loud and sound good? When you build a ported box it needs to be tuned to a certain frequency. Generally speaking the lower it is tuned, the higher the SQ will be, the higher tuned, the lower the SQ is, but output is usually much higher in certain areas. I don't really trust my port calculations very well, but there are plenty of people on this board who can do it in their sleep. Just mount the amp on the back of the seat in the trunk, keeps it out of the way and usually won't get damaged. Good Luck.

Sure, 600 volts, yep. If you’re trying to launch the subwoofer cones to the moon! And, that’s if they don’t just vaporize first!

Sell the dual 2 and get another dual 4.
