Brand new SAZ-1500D keeps going into protection mode

Just wired my new warrentied Sundown SAZ-1500D.

I can play volumes up to half power (40/80) fine, but when I go up to volumes 50/80, the amp just cuts out and the red protection light comes on.

Any idea what would be the problem?

My fuses are fine (brand new amp)

My grounds are fine (my old sundown worked perfectly for 8 months until it short-circuited on me)

I'm running an EA 200amp alternator, with a stock battery in my '99 Honda Accord.

would a new battery solve the problem?

What ohm configuration are the subs you are using? What final ohm load is the amp seeing?

either low voltage or u r clipping it

I used a DMM just now and my voltage is at 14.1 idle and drops down to 12.3v-13.4v around volumes 50/80

Gains are all the way down and no bass boost is being used.

I'm running a 15" DVC TC-3000 wired in parallel if that helps.

how am I clipping if that's the case?

when you say "until it short-circuited on me" what happened? 8 months is not a very long life span, expecially for a Sundown amp. I am suspect of what ever took the other amp out possibly.

The center pin doesn't make good connection. Seems the cheapest RCAs never have this problem, only expensive ones.

thats what i'm thinking. some of those subs are D1.4 so that would put the amp seeing .75ohm. thats gettin pretty low if you don't have the electrical behind it. sure, a 200a alt is a start. but maybe another battery would be in order. what size wire is feeding your amp OP?

A 200a alternator is more than enough to keep up with a single saz-1500d. If you're getting voltage drop into the low 12s then you need to readjust your settings. What are your bass boost and gain set at?

Gain is set at 1/2 way up. Bass boost all the way down cuz I don't really need it.

I know it says recommended 1/0 gauge, but I was tight on money back then so I had to settle for a 2/0 awg.

No doubt i'm going to re-wire my system to 1/0awg all around, it just a matter of time.

i'll try new RCA's. Because if they worked before..why wouldn't it work again? but its worth a shot

RCA issues seem to be intermittent - it's odd. It's the first thing I tell people to check and many times ends up being the culprit.

Get a cheap RCA cable - like a Scosche or Radio Shack brand with the red/white connectors.
