Can 8in subs really bang and thump?

I traded my tahoe in and kept the system of course, but i picked up a 4dr Jeep wrangler and im not stuffing it with my two ED 15's. So ive been considering some shallow mount subs ..two 10s or 12's in a sealed box...then thought about one SSa Sd2 in a sealed box since its got a mounting depth of like 4.7in or something. Then I started thinking...could two beefy 8in subs in a sealed box bang and thump like thier larger brethren?

I say sealed because i want to make the box as small as possible. I have like 40in width to work with but I dont want the box to big so im thinking maybe downfiring the subs to achieve some extra bass. I listen to everything for rap to dubstep to deathmetal to house/techno. So is there an 8in sub under 150 bucks, since thats what sd2's go for, that could bang in the same way? Oh I would be powering them with my ED NINE.1 amp. Can 8's play LOW...obviously not like the 15's im used to ....but...idk...

They'll get loud, but since you were running 2 15s, you're probably not gonna be satisfied with a sealed box.

Go ported, you won't be sorry you did.

I was gonna say.. just ask splaudio..but he beat me here! I think he scans these forums for people talking about beast 8's!

Like ur two 15's ? No

But I heard two 6.5s Tangs in a tiny little .7cube vented box that were only being fed 120WRMS that shocked hell out of me, so , yes , the right two 8s in the right box would prolly be decent

Im not trying to win any SPL comps but honestly any small ive ever heard has been OEM type crap like whats in my Jeep now. So i would just like something I can enjoy lows with but that I can also hear. Some of the ported boxed 8's ive seen on yourtube have HUGE ports hanging out of them and would not only take up more room than I want but also look like crap with a 6in wide 2ft long tube hanging out of the box.

werd.

Plenty of folks on here who can offer you excellent advice/options on which 8s are best, and what type of enclosure....and SPLAudio (?) is the resident sub cuztomizer iirc. Maybe drop him a line and get his thots

Then go with a slot port

Don't expect much from two 8s sealed, you're gonna need to go ported if you want to get loud with them, after all, one 8 is a little more than 1/4th the size of a 15.

I will admit i know **** about building boxes....ive seen a few slot port premade boxes but im afraid of spending money on one and it being of the wrong specs. guess Ill have to find a local box builder who knows what hes doing.....ugh not easy around here!

Better go JL... Everyone knows they whomp and knock //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif
lol never been a JL fan

Yes, they can slap and knock too...

Any driver with decent motor force and soft parts designed to play low end frequencies can bang well given a proper box and good clean power. Just keep in mind that with 8s you are trying to overcome a large difference in cone area (and usually but not always displacement) verses larger cone subs.

Brahmas are nice. I have a 10" Mk1. Just a single 10 was enough for me.
