Finding a 12" Sub SQ

I just blew my Alpine type S 12". I was listening to bass cannon louder than usual. It smells like melted plastic and metal lol. So I have a Kenwood x700-5 amp nothing special. It pushes 500 watts at 2 ohm. I want a 12" sub that I can push to 100% volume and it won't have a problem. I only want a single 12" I had my type S in a sealed box I prefer the sound of it. It has better sounding kick drums I usually listen to metalcore. Ported is supposed to be better because the sub doesn't get as hot and I won't have the problem I just had from what I read. I have a budget of $300 for sub and box will build my own if I have to prefer not too. I can go tops $350 but would prefer not. Thanks for any help!

sounds like your just going to blow any sub you get if you run it sealed. you dont need to spend $300-350 to get a nice SQ sub... no offense but odds are you probably wouldnt tell much difference between a $100-150 sub and a 300-350 sub. save the money.

My recommendation: Save some money and get a $100-150 500w DVC 4ohm sub, and built a nice ported box to spec. It will be way louder, and still sound nice if done correctly. Less likely to blow your sub.

if you are dead set on running sealed, then Make sure you put the box in a larger sealed enclosure 2-4cuft, but really it all depends on what woofer you use. The last thing you want to do is put a high powered woofer in a small sealed enclosure and expect good DB/SQ, you will blow your sub.

type S should not blow that fast on that power, you rpbably have it tuned wrong and clipped the crap out of it and they are right you will blow any subs if you clip it like crazy

This is why your sub crapped out.

If you are driving your system at "100%" volume, well then you were clipping the HELL out of your amp.

Can you post a pic of your amp settings?

i'd suggest you google it up and learn how to set gains, on your amp correctly with a multimeter and oscilloscope. Everything's on youtube, if you want to save money and not blow subs, then you'd best do your research before throwing more money in the Shitter
