Do I really need one. I drilled a hole and I could only fit the cable through it with just very little opening. Not enough to fit the grommet in. So I just left it. It doesn't seem to be cutting the cable at all should I be OK. I just didn't have a drill bit big enough to make the hole bigger.

I've never used them....maybe put some tape or something around the edge to smooth it out. Just because it doesn't look like it's cutting or messing up the jacket doesn't mean it wont in the future.

Better safe than sorry

gotta pay to play. why do you think people charge for installs? one reason is because the tools it takes to do a full install correctly are expensive.

no grommet = future fire and/or damage to the battery and the wire will be destroyed. the bit is cheaper than buying and installing all new power wire?

all bare metal openings are rough and will wear through the wire.

always use a grommet when passing wire through metal. pretty basic.
