Help on special wood cutting techniques...

I'm making a top for an amp box and I want to cut out two 8 inch by 10 inch holes in it. I am then planning on putting plexiglass windows there. How do I go about taking about a 1/4" around the hole so the plexiglass has an edge to sit and be glued on to?

Let me understand this one second, you cut out 8x10 elipses and you want to mount plexiglass actually in them by producing a lip for it to rest one? If so, just use a router with the proper bit.

Ok and will it still work with MDF? How much do routers cost, I dont have one.

your local cabinet shop would be more than happy to router a lip for you probably $20 or less.

you could always put the windows on the inside of the box. it will look bad on a painted box though, it looks good on a carpeted box though.

if you are talking about the fiberglass/bondo boxes that looks like parts of the car you can always make the plexiglass bigger than the whole glue it in so its inside the box but make sure you seal it up with some silicone and then ad some extra around the hole you cut in the mdf to make it more of a gradual transition.
