For some reason the search function is taking me 10 minutes each attempt so if this has been asked before I apologize.
I'm trying to figure out to do with my home theater set up. Right now the room my TV in is very oddly shaped and I think I would only benefit from a 2.1 system, but future setups will be atleast 5.1.
I'll be needing a receiver and for now have just been cruising around. I have a ps3 so HDMI will be a must. I was thinking maybe a 7.1 receiver and just bridge the front 2 channels to a bigger set of speakers as I've read this has been the preference but to each their own. Hoping to keep the price of the receiver under $400 or so but with HDMI and decent output and whatever nice features I would like just might not be possible. Any suggestions under this price range though will be greatly appreciated.
I have put no thought into the 2 front speakers so am open to absolutely everything at this point. So any recommendations on some sites to read up on will be fully appreciated and reviewed.
For the Substage I purchased two of those 12" eD subs that were on sale. Too cheap to pass up I guess and wasn't sure when an opportunity for that much cone area/dollar would come up again. Not sure if I will be going ported or sealed yet.
To power the subwoofer I was looking into using an alpine amplifier I have sitting around that does 400@ 4ohms. Heard computer power supplies might work but I dunno if I would be interested in daisy chaining anything like that together.
I checked out eBay for some items and was wondering if http://cgi.ebay.com/400W-12V-33A-Switching-Power-Supply-CCTV-DVR-Security_W0QQitemZ200178474767QQihZ010QQcategoryZ20589QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
would be an appropriate power supply choice for that amplifier? Also, would the receiver be able to send a signal through RCA out directly to the amplifier or would i need some type of special adapter?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I know I am a little behind on the knowledge of the HT aspect but I like researching anything I put more than $50 into =P
Thanks much,
-Kenny
