jl audio w3v2 or v3?

okay a friend of mine has two jl audio 10 inch w3s he doesnt know if there v2 or v3 and i could get them for $100

has anyone had either that could give me a good feedback?

also should i go ported or sealed for the box im looking for sql i know thats not what a 10w3 is for but im looking for the best out of the subs that i can get

car 1985 monte carlo box is going in trunk

cant go wrong at that price for a set of w3's lots of people bash them but the relaity is that they are solid speakers with decent output for the price and amount of power they need. You can always build two boxes with the amount of wood you will have from one sheet of mdf for those subs. Try sealed and if you aren't happy try ported.

 
I don't know how to build a box at all, I'm a total car audio newb. I was going to have fisher customs build me a box for the subs
for those subs.. the box will cost you more than the subs.. Have a local kid build it that knows what hes doing.. ask to see his.. most keep a profile of their work.. tell him you will pay for the cost of the wood, nails, caulking.. 30-40 plus 20 for his time.. that should be a simple build to do real fast..

I think I'm just going to see if anyone the forum is willing to help me that lives on long island.

 
W3v2 is a much better SQ driver then the W3v3
What ^^^ said. I picked up my pair of 10w3v2s from a friend for $90 and I am not impressed with them. For $90 subwoofers, they are good, but if I had paid close to MSRP, the sales associate probably wouldn't have approved of my return method. Sure, a subwoofer may not fit up their ass, but it wouldn't stop me from trying!

I had a chance to hear some 10w3v3s and I liked them even less! That chaotic peak @ 50 Hz with a severe dropoff on the higher and lower frequencies just ruins the experience for me.

As for me, I am going to throw my 10w3v2s in the Civic one last time just to see if I can get them to grow on me. If I can't find a way to like them, they are gone!

 
One more thing, you are going to need more than 3.5" dash speakers to keep up with your subs! I made the mistake of thinking that was enough in the late 80s and it wasn't long before I was figuring how to put door speakers in my 1981 Chevy Malibu //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

I'm saving up for rear fill and door speakers, don't worry:)

 
iv owned a few pairs of w3's b4.... the old school ones(late 90's) and the v2's... ive always like the way they sounded downfiring, ported or sealed.. just my thawts //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
