I have a bmw 330ci, and i want to get an aftermarket alarm for it. I want the best protection on the market. I have over 7k worth of audio equipment in my car, and im constantly scared when i leave my car. Im looking into the two way pager alarms. There are just so many on the market and i dont really know what to look into. My installer recommended the viper 791 (which seems to be pretty popular) but i have been researching and hearing good things about the compuster 2wss-as and that it has the best range.

Anyone have any suggestions (id like to hear from people with experience) i know there are alot of pros on here. I would greatly appreciate it, im really in need of the advice. I need to get it installed this week before i start classes again.

Also on a side note, i heard i need a bypass or something like that to get the remote start to work because of some chip that bmws use?

Also is an alarm install completely reversable ( i heard rumors of ignition wires or something like that being cut).... please if anyone has any info, please let me know, thanks so much!

I get that its a good alarm, but i would like to hear from alarm specialists on why one alarm is better than another, i know there are a few on here that deal with alarms (not just they bought one and liked it)

also, anyone have any info on the whole install being reversible and if iwould need some kind of bypass unit and keep my key in the car?

I have not installed the compustar yet but i have heard that it is one of the best alarms out. and since they are there own company and dont make 15 other types of alarms i would say they are probably alittle better.

With DEI they make tons of alarms. IE python, clifford, Viper and NOW AUDIOVOX.

so if you like what prestige offers the new audiovox AX901 is better then the viper 791 it has all the same features plus more.

it offers more channels for auxilary. it also has a new random horn honk output that makes it sound as if someone is inside of the car honking the horn. where as the viper only offers horn or siren not both.

as for your question with the cutting of wires the only one that is cut is the starter wire. otherwise every other wire is tapped into. meening they should be stripped back and soldered onto. then taped up with good 33+ tape.

hope that helps. by the way I prefer audiovox over Viper anyday...

and since you have 7K of audio i would suggest a telematic upgrade that allows you to call your car from your cell phone and start it. it also allows you to track your car via the internet and even shut off the car when it is driving.

so the starter wire is cut, and when i uninstall the alarm, it needs to be soldeired back no? So if i want to start the car normally i can, and when i use the remote i press the button and then put the key in to drive away, correct? im just making sure that when i take this alarm out everything is reversible.

one more question, my car has three key positions, one pwers the car, two powers all the electronics in the car, and three starts the car. When im going to use the remote start, is it going to start the electronics too? (my screen pops up and stereo goes on in position 2 or 3) or is it only going to go on after i sit inside the car and put the key in...

I have a Viper791XV in my car as well cost 500 for it all including installation, that is the only way the company will warranty you if something is stolen. Its the best alarm in my decision reasonably affordable but its what you want you know

best protection? a good alarm with battery back up with a microwave sensor will be about as effective as anything else. doesnt guarantee nothing happens just more than likely to go off and not get fried/by passed by the time the arseholes are fooking with it.
