screwing sub to enclosure -- do i screw with rubber surround on the sub?

my ssa 10inch dcon has a thick rubber surround with screw holes. Does the screw head go on the outside of that or on the inside of it, against the metal.

my guess is on the outside.

No, It need to hold the sub securely so all the way to the frame.

The rubber gasket is there to "hide" the screws.

Either way, but there needs to be a seal between the box and woofer, and the rubber ring is one way to achieve it.
