When I drive my sub hard for about 2-3 minutes it really gets stinky.

It is rated at 1000 rms but I am running about 1800 to it. (IA DR 12" and 20.1)

Now I'm not an expert, but that doesn't seem too healthy for the sub...What exactly am I smelling and how bad am I messing up the sub?

The smell is when your voice coils get hot and start to melt the gule and varnish off the pole.

unless your goal is a toasted sub, me a wee bit more gentle with it //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

turn the gains down until you can play it with no stink.

I would tone down some of that power to your subs. If you kepp doing this it will eventually melt most of the gule and varnish off the pole and then the voice coil will start to unwrap and then your sub will blow up and probally smoke.

Should I install a Flux Capacitor to the pre amp outlet of my delorean board to attenuate some of the clipped sine waves propogating from the farad transistor?

Short answer; Am I running too many jigga-watts?
