Square Kickers vs Circle Kickers

Let me break you in here. For every thread, there will be 3 serious posts, then everything else will be derailment, nuthugging, flaming/bashing, and discussing of sex[/] or of one(another's) private parts.

a shape of a woofer does not make it better.....just go with either or

Having the same motor force, a square has more cone area. The square makes it better for SPL (talking identical motors as the CVX and L7 would have)

ok didnt kno we were talking same motor force but yest thats true

What about moving mass? 2 cars of different curb weights but with the same engine/hp, the lighter car will win almost all of the time. This is assuming the gearing and aerodynamic drag is the kept same.

^^ Careful! You are in uncharted territory of common sense, rational thinking and objective view.

Only nuthugging, bashing, and all out flame wars are tolerated on CA.com!//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/uhoh.gif.c07307dd22ee7e63e22fc8e9c614d1fd.gif//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/naughty.gif.94359f346c0f1259df8038d60b41863e.gif

it's not that simple actually, a square cone can break up in the corners causing flex and cancellation making the round one louder. the only true answer is test and find out what works for you .

Assuming that the square cones are rigid enough to not flex under normal use, the square cone sub would displace more air.

Displacement, box and port design, the stacking of sound waves, etc. - all have an effect of your actual SPL output.

It is not as simple as Displacement = SPL, like one would be led to believe. However, if the motor is the same on both subs, and the weight of the cone + suspension design is similar - the square sub should outperform the round one.

Only real world testing would determine which is better for SPL.

out of experience, all squares will pop..............come n get me sacsking916 //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/up2something.gif.dd110ecf3ae4b76050d87598f2f8de7c.gif..

My 6 year strong daily squares says hi.

As for rigidity and moving mass. If anyone has really looked at the two subs in question (that I put in question), the L7 should not flex or wave any due to good rigidity design. The CVX has some of the same design structure, making its moving mass near to that of the L7. When talking those two subs, I have never seen an application where the CVX was able to out perform the L7. There are plenty of round subs out there that can, but the question was poised Kicker only subs. Kicker purposely designed the squares to be a louder counterpart to their own round subs across the board. They did this as a great marketing scheme, as before the copyright wore off, it was immediately known who's subs you were running if they were square. They have been imitated by a few companies as of late, but you get the idea.
