What happens if the box is too big?

Don't ever follow manufacturer's recommendations. They aren't very good. It will have the sub playing within it's limits without hurting it.

im guessing the box is sealed if so any air leaks?

what does it even sound like?

yea box is sealed im pretty sure theres no air leaks.

reason i was asking cause i bought the new tc oem sub and i wonder how it would sound it the boxes i have before building new ones which i know i will have to do because my boxes are too big.

Add stuff into the box.....Like a brick or 2 and then see how it sounds

like Blove said start adding dense(sp?) things inside it to retract some of the internal volume. something like 2x4 pieces, bricks, MDF scraps. If it sounds better to you leave em in there (no one will know they're there)
