Why are new Alpine head units so crappy?

But I'm going to have to agree with the thread starter i feel the same way about alpine.... i love the SQ from my 9887 but it does feel cheap to me.... the motorize face may not be a necessity but nothing us car audio enthusiasts pay for is a necessity...... if the technology is there most likely we WANT the ****.... lol.... i might have paid an extra $100 on top of paying retail for my 9887 to have one with a motorized face, lol but maybe thats just me

I've never been a fan of the motorized faces.. thats probably because i have had two motors go bad on two different pioneers. lol. IMO the more moving parts, the more likely something is going to break

I'd get an old Alpine deck and get it fixed. Just buy a busted one. I got my Eclipse 8051 for cheap and if anything happens to it, I'll just get it fixed and keep it. I wouldn't mind having an Alpine 7909-J.

Another thing is that times are changing and it's all about iPods now. They figure if they have the best iPod connection and functionality that they can cut down on some of the things like an EQ and motorized face.

But that's exactly the problem right there. How did something like an EQ that is directly related to SQ, which is supposed to the the POINT, get sacrificed for something like an ipod connection. I love the idea and will be doing it in my car, but never would I do it at the expense of SQ. Christ.

Yeah, I hear you there. Unfortunately, most people don't care about SQ and just want to be able to hook up their iPod. Thus, companies stop giving a crap about SQ and just worry about iPod capability.

I still have my very first headunit in my car. Alpine CDA-9831 It is a lot nicer than the new ones and I believe it is from 2004 or 2005

real cd's are the only way to go for true sq listening.

mp3 are lossy.

ipods i find to alter the sound a bit, even with the EQ inside set to off or flat.

i just use real cd's. even with real cd's, when your as into it as i am you'll find it hard to find a cd thats even of excellent quality these days. alot of cd's are recorded and mixed like garbage.
