Aside from overheating a sub or bottoming it out, how else can you damage it?
is it possible to rip the surround without hitting the back plate?
From it rubbing against something, or getting poked. Foam surrounds do deteriorate over time and will crack and fail eventually...more quickly if exposed to sunlight. Rubber surrounds hold up a lot better to time and elements but aren't as loud.

bottom coil

over heat coil

rock coil

over throw coil and land on top plate (only on some subs)

shread spiders

hit spider on basket rearward

burn tinsel leads (clipping, over streching)

fold a cone

rip a surrond from over excursion

surrond damage from too much box pressure

you can also have glue failures

Think I've done all these at one point or another LOL. Good list.
