Altec Lansing 6X9's - Will reconing be worth it?

So I have a pair of Altec Lansing 6X9's(ALS693). Both need new surrounds, and one is for sure blown. I saw an ad on Craigslist for a company that recones speakers. I can get them reconed for $54 a piece+shipping. The guy said that they would keep the same power handling and would sound the same, just they would look different. I'm not really worried about the power-handling side as I wouldn't be running much(maybe 2X50 watts).

So here are my questions:

Would they really sound the same?

Do you think it would be worth it?

Or should I try to sell them as-is on eBay?

Are there any other new 6X9's that would come close to the sound?(especially the bass!!)

If you have never heard Altec Lansing 6X9's you probably won't get why I'm even asking... I think reconeing them is worth it only cause my boy had a set of altec lansing 6x9's and till this day are the best sounding 6x9's i've heard. I no longer use 6x9's as components are superior but those are good speakers. Haven't really heard any current 6x9's so take my opinion for what it's worth
