will one 15 hit harder then two 12's?

15 - 800W

two 12's 800W

both in a ported box

i have a mtx amp that pushes 800W rms

and have two 12's that handell 400w rms

will one 15 hit harder?

Depends on the make and model of the subs. As a general rule, 2 subs push more air than 1 slightly larger sub like jrmax explained. Also as a general rule, 1 15 will hit slightly lower bass notes than a 12, but like I said it depends on the make and model of the subs.

Wow sorry you are right man has it been a long time. Well anyway it still comes out to the 2 12s having more airspace so no harm done thanks for the awakining.
