Hello,

 

I currently have a H||H (or HH or H&H depending on who types it) Audio V800. I know very little about this amplifier other than it sounds very nice and it is powerful. I acquired it from my father who used to use them for Pro-PA applications, he still has 8 of them sitting in a road case in his warehouse. I know they were made in the late 80s, they are MOS-FET, and H||H Audio is no longer in business.

 

I am looking for any information on the company, designer, designers other work, and or the amplifier. I really like this amplifier and am very curious about the history of it.

 

Oh, and I will post pictures of it later. It looks a bit ruff but still functions and sounds excellent.

I know H||H was purchased by Laney sometime in the late 80's early 90's. Also, H||H Audio amplifiers were designed for use in BBC recording studios. So I think they were designed and used with the original PMC monitors.

SO....

A little update on this amplifier.

Taking it apart to look at some things, I noticed a brown foam which was leaking out of the capacitors. Breaking out the Volt Meter the voltage at the capacitors was 78.9 volts. Which was a little surprising because the capacitors are only rated at 80VDC //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wow.gif.23d729408e9177caa2a0ed6a2ba6588e.gif. This is a little concerning due to the factors involved; high voltage (157.8 VDC), leaking capacitors, low voltage rating, age, and voltage sway under load (which could jump 10-15 volts). So, I purchased some new capacitors after doing A LOT of reading and checking and thinking.

I replaced the 15,000 uF 80VDC caps with 15,000 uF 100VDC capacitors. I forgot to take my camera home so I don't have pictures of the replacement, but I might take some later of the new caps.

Anyway, after the fix the voltage stays at a pretty constant 80-80.2VDC even under a 150 Watt 4 Ohm load with a 1kHz sin wave. The output is even cleaner and it is much less touchey when it comes to buzzes and pops.
