how much was gas when you started driving??

I wasn't driving yet, but I remember the week back in 1973, when gas went from $0.35 per gallon to $0.65 a gallon. In, like, ONE DAY, in most cases. And even at $0.65 a gallon, there were still massive gas shortages. Richard Nixon caught all sorts of hell, over that. If Watergate hadn't kicked his butt, THAT probably would have...

Fortunately, we lived way out in the boondocks... there weren't as many people panicking, trying to hoard gas. Also, my dad had this Opel station wagon, that would get like 45mpg IN TOWN... we actually could goof off out in the boonies (turn off the engine and coast down hills and such) and get as high as 74mpg (over a 104 mile Saturday drive, we used 1.4 gallons of gas)!

Too bad my sister wrecked that car... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

As far as me driving, I think that about $0.59 a gallon was about as low as I saw, when I started driving... here in there in the 1980s and such. I never worried about it, because my various Opel GTs would get between 30 and 35mpg, even hauling a$$. (the third one I had, would do 132MPH, which seemed fast as h*** back then!) //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Regards,

Gordon.

it was always $1.19 for regular, diesel was always $1.59, which didn't change at first, even when gas prices skyrocketed......
