is 0 gauge and 1/0 gauge the same ?

I've seen 4 conducter wire that was the size of 1/0. not sure how they named it though.
I'd like to know that too. I thought my 2 conductor 8 awg wire was called 8/2 //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

Since that's as how it was listed

you have seen 4 conductor wire where the outside insulation is the general size of 1/0... it's probably four 12g wires, inside of an insulated jacket...

Have we answered your question yet? If not, PM me and ill make it simple
yea i think i got it. ..... 1/0 and 0 r the same.

the reason i asked was on my last install the wire i had was from q power and it said on it 0 gauge.

i just bought a roll of metra wire and it says 1/0 gauge on it. ( and it looked a bit thinner than the q power.

Im pretty sure that from smallest to largest it goes:
8/0 = 8 gauge

4/0 = 4 gauge

2/0 = 2 gauge

1/0 = 0 gauge

Correct me if I am wrong someone.
Wrong!

0 gauge is actually bigger...better!
It made me lol?

No, it's as Chad said..
1/0 = ott'

2/0 = 2 'ott'

3/0 = 3 'ott'

etc.

1/0 = smallest

3/0 = largest on that list

the /0 has nothing to do with strand count
This. The /0 is to represent this sort of grunting sound called pronounced "ott". I forget how it's actually spelled. After 1/0, it's mostly just welding cable. I don't think I've heard of any actual wire-wire after like 2/0. I think some companies do make 2/0, but not many.

12/2 = 12awg wire two separate insulated parts that are 12awg each
x2

I believe most houses are wired with 14/3,

12/2 is usually something you would see running a 20 amp circuit in your house. It would have 2 insulated wires and 1 uninsulated ground wire. Not really useful in car audio...
