KDC-X589 with my setup?

Well, for one it fits in my car well apparently.

I've got a 1999 Eclipse.

Bought:

Clarion EQ774 Equalizer

RL-p 15" d4

Viper d1200.1

I'm trying to select a HU. How would you guys compare this KDC-X589 to an Alpine 9847?

Is it a well-rated deck? I saw someone said 'don't mess with anything below the 889' or something, explain?

I've been using the KDC-X589 for almost three months and I'm very happy with it. My previous HU was an eXcelon KDC-X717(which I loved..the D-mask feature caused its demise) and the 589 is a better deck. The 589 has all of the same basic features as the 717(3-band parametric EQ,hi and low pass XO's,etc) but the SQ is much improved and they finally ditched the stupid and troublesome D-Mask feature with a motorized face.

Yeah, the 789 and 889(in particular) are more upscale but the 589 is fairly loaded in its own right. I don't care about fancy graphics or displays. My main concern is great sound so the 589 was the best choice for me. I couldn't live without at least a 3-band para EQ and XO's.

Believe me, the 589 isn't a slouch sonically. However, if you're looking for a more elaborate display and additional features then I would go with the 889. It has a 4-band para EQ and BBS.

Almost everything I've read online has been glowing about the 589. I'm certainly happy with mine. It isn't a bare-bones HU by any stretch.
