Venture the highway
Hi Everyone - I think I'm sorted with my SQ setup and equipment choices and have a few questions I'd like to be clear on before I commit to spending the money. I apologise in advance if these are dumb questions - especially question 1. I'd value any general feedback and opinions.
Requirements:
1. Keep OEM headunit
2. Full active 3-way front stage
3. Full active 2-way rear stage
4. Full active 12" subwoofer rear stage
6. 6 channels line level input
6. 8 channels line level output amplification + DSP built in
7. 2 channels RCA level output
Equipment:
1. Focal ES165 K2 (components) - 100RMS @ 2Ω
2. Focal EC165K (coaxial) - 80RMS @ 4Ω
3. DD Audio 712 (sub) - 1200 @ 1Ω
4. Zapco ADSP-Z8 IV-8 (amp+dsp) - 8 x 80 @ 4Ω / 8 x 120 @ 2Ω
5. DD Audio M80.B (mono amp) - 1 x 900 @ 1Ω
Install / Test Equipment:
1. PC
2. Zapco DSP software
3. Audio Frog acoustic measurement mic
4. Audio calibration CD
Questions:
1. Can I mix and match the ohm loads between output channels? i.e. can the x8 channel amp support different ohm loads on line level output channels? For example I'd like to send a 2ohm load from 6 output channels (front stage) and a 4ohm load from the other 2 output channels (rear stage). Is it just a matter of the correct wiring configuration at the speaker terminals? I'm a bit confused on this one.
2. Is there a real material difference and a decent return on investment for 3-way front stage over a 2-way?
3. What benefit or opportunity loss in a stereo vs mono subwoofer sound stage set up? Stereo sub setup worth while?
4. What are the best alternatives (most full proof) to detecting input/output signal clipping other than using Steve Meads tools?
5. Any recommendations for strengthening power stability and safety other than the big 3 and good wiring connections?
6. Based on my requirements and the equipment I've chosen, does anything stand out as a red flag? Maybe something I'm missing or not thinking about?
Thanks for taking the time to read this! Hope you can help me.
Cheers
