Ive only ever driven a car with a manual tranny, and never realized until I installed a rear camera that I pretty much always pull out of reverse and into neutral while im still backing up.

Id like to make some type of delay to keep the rear view camera on for maybe 5ish seconds after coming out of reverse. I was thinking maybe a small capacitor on the trigger wire? Would that work? any other better ideas would be appreciated!

It only works when the car is in reverse. Also, some units have trigger options in the settings menu.
