speaker baffles

Yes if you are trying to chamber the drivers.

I may get some to deflect moisture on my midbasses. Cut the back out.

It would serve these 2 purposes well. I wouldn't consider them mounting baffles.

 
thats a sloppy way of doing it but it could work.
so then how should I do it? get a custom mounting baffle in the shape of the stock 6x9 but with a 6.5" cutout in the centre? That would work right?

Yes. Only thing is the leads will be encased in resin. Keep in mind that this is an assumption.

I agree with every one above. OFC is much better. Copper is a much better conductor than aluminum.
