:DHey fellow members //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

When i first started in car audio, my only goal was SPL. Hooking whatever i could find , adding numerous amp .. didn't give a **** about sq. Well things change and for the last year, i get rid of all the shits i had in the car and made a turn into sq lane....

since i'm going to the university i'm pretty much broke. So I usually swap my audio part one by one. Once i had the loudness i wanted on my substage (dual type r 12ch ) i decided i love loud subtage, but with crystal clear mids and highs. Anyway the first investment was getting a nice 4channel amp, that i bridge latter on and then the front stage. I went with some entry cdt's then did a direct swap with id's ctx65cs. Now that was a big improvement over what i had before...

Then a month ago i called a fiQ 18inch coz i wanted something that could sound awesome to match with my awesome sounding frontstage. I had some trouble with the box but now it's tight and well finished. I'm powering the Q with a bxi2006d. It is as loud as my type r's were and it does sound deeper a a little better , but not as much as i tought a Sq sub would sound in my mind. I'm getting few little rattling noise that i need to work on tought...

So i just wanted to know if you think that Sound Quality in Substage is overrated ... compare to the mids/high sound quality. I mean, everything sound so much more detailed on my new frontstage, you can push it without being harsh even at incredible loud level, while the sub sound nice... but nothing //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eek.gif.771b7a90cf45cabdc554ff1121c21c4a.gif I expected more "clarity" ... still some bass line sound like sit (ie go getta from jeezy 2nd album... wtf is that??? )

I tough an sq sub would make every line sound perfect //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif It does sound a little better than the R, but mainly only deeper and lower

Compared to the Type R, i expected a bigger jump in sq. Btw my 18" Q box is 6.6ft/cu tuned to 29hz. I may be sealing the Q soon for sq sake

just my 2 cents, comment please

80hz-20khz > 20hz-80hz

for me its 50hz - 20khz in the front //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Well if the sub only got a 70hz range to play ... shouldn't it does it without any imperfection //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crazy.gif.c13912c32de98515d3142759a824dae7.gif

Btw from sine wave test, The Q ain't loud at all over 60hz... i guess it's normal but anyway confirm?

maybe try sealed enclosure and you should be able to give the sub more power.
Well i'm already giving around 2k watts but never for a long time.. i don't want to blow this sub yet //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif I don't even know if it got the bp option

IMO, subbass is more forgiving and easier to tame compared to the rest of the spectrum.
well i'm wondering why pay 500$ on a sub while one at 120$ can sound almost as good... While a 500$ components set will sound golden compared to a 100$ one.. most of the time

That is not always true. I have seen some high dollar components sound like crap due to a shoddy half-ass "professional" install.

that's what "most of the time" implied //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

I'm concluding that a SQ sub is a sub that hit the lowest freqs with as much autority as the more sensitive (45hz+) freq... is that accurate?

I would think that you would want as flat of a response as possible from a SQ sub. Herein lies a dilemma. You can get it to model flat, but the transfer function of your vehicle will always come back to bite you. I have gone through as many as three different enclosures for the same sub(s) trying to get them to sound the way I wanted. Even James Bang will tell you that I am too dang picky when it comes to subwoofers!

Over the years, I have come to the conclusion that a moving vehicle is a pretty crappy environment for SQ compared to a home or studio environment where external variables are easier to eliminate.

sub bass should be felt more than heard. When done right it is not the focus of the sound system.
Well i got to admit that even if the Q doesn't sound that much louder than the type r's to my ear , my bone seems to shake alot more from the lowest lines //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/cool.gif.3bcaf8f141236c00f8044d07150e34f7.gif

i felt weird when i left my car few hours ago

I dont think I would define SQ in that one sentence, hard to describe in a factual manner though
