sundown sa-12 on aq 2200?

Ive been wanting to try this sub badly after all the good things I've been hearing about it. After the price drop, might as well buy one to try out. My question is what ohm should I run it? I was thinking running it at 1 ohm but I can adjust the gain with the dmm so it wouldnt get more than a certain amount of clean wattage. Other option would be running it at 2 ohms but I dont really know how much power my aq 2200 pushes out. My guess would be around 1000 - 1400 watts rms. But Im sure at 2 ohms, ill start clipping it a lot quicker? The box will also be a little over sized.. its 2.75 cu ft before displacement and tuned to around 39 - 40 hz. So what ohm should I run it at? I still havent bought it but im about to. thanks

The sa-12 is rated at 600 watts rms (which we all know it can handle more then that) the aq2200d at 1 ohm puts out 2200 watts rms that's about 1600 watts over what it is rated at so it's probably over kill heck I have 2 sa-12's and only an aq1200d I actually want to get a aq2200 at some point to give them the power they crave. The aq2200d at 2 ohms would give it 1100 watts rms I'd go with 2 ohms with the gain low to be on the safe side.

Hey if you want to trade ur aq2200d for my aq1200d and some change let me know //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Okay thanks and no thanks.. lol I actually like my aq 2200. If I was to trade it though, itll be for a bigger amp.

How did you come up with this?? and iirc the smaller the box the more power the woofer can take. i am not too sure if the woofer will like that power with that big of a box.

edit: just an //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif a buddy of mine runs his sa-15s on a aq2200 and it gets down nicely. so around 1k to that woofer should get pretty loud for you

What I meant by clipping faster is at 1 ohm, I can have it turned down and adjusted for a good 1200-1300 unclipped wattage and not anything more. With it running at 2 ohms, itll probably be around 1100 watts but probably will start clipping anywhere after that. I dont know if what im saying is true or not but thats what im guessing?

Well I'll certainly say it's a great sub especially at this price, nab it!//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif But I'm not understanding your reasoning for it clipping faster at 2ohms, maybe I just don't know what I'm talking about though. But I think at 2ohms it would be perfect. Though if you really wanna do 1ohm, I'd just say keep the gain really far down.

It's not like you have to use all of the power(or will even be able to). Just turn the gain all the way down and work from there. You might not have to turn the gain up at all, depending on the RCA voltage you're sending to the amp.
