will 105-130a be enough?

My friend is putting a hifonics BXi 2006d in a chevy tahoe w/ two 12" alpine type-x. will his stock alternator be able to handle the draw? his alternator either puts out 105-130amps, im not sure because i havent physically looked under the hood but thats what they came with his year.

Im going to tell you right now its going to be nowhere near enough for that 2000 watter. Friend of mine had the 1606 in his mustang with a 100 amp alty and it would actually kill his lights driving down the highway at full tilt. Assuming that amp was 100% efficient (which is not possible and nowhere near close) 2000 watts...or in this case prolly around 1700-1800 watts of 14v power is...121 - 128 amps. But in this case is going to be closer to around..160 - 180 amps. A 200 amp alternator should possibly handle it given my calculations of 65% efficiency which Hifonics arent very efficient to begin with. IF someone would like to double check my calculations feel free.

Im thinking of getting BXI1606D or BX1605D, my alternator is 130 would it dim?Did your friend bench test 1606?

Well he didnt have his bench tested but we know for a fact it was good for at least 1300 watts because he had a crossfire VR1000D and it wouldnt even dim his lights and the Hifonics pushed his 12"DP with some authority. Omg it was insanely loud.

Anyway if I figure it correctly...at 65% efficiency..its going to be in the neighborhood of 135-145 give or take some I guess. This is assuming that it recieves a constant 14v of power for 1400-1500 watts of power. In the real world it wont get near this much but if it receives less voltage then it will consume less amperage but given the overhead needed to operate the vehicle's accessories then 130amp alternator probably will be borderline good enough.

My jeep currently has a 130a alt. and I also currently have a hifonics BX1500D.At full tilt, I get very slight dimming at 1500rpm.

I do get a tiny voltage drop on full tilt on long basslines as well, dips down from 13.9-14v down to around 13.5v

Ya that sounds about right Mountaineer Man. Like I said its going to be on the borderline of being enough. Since the alternator will most likely not be giving a full 14 volts all the time the amp may not pull as much or put out as much power but then again it could also be true that Hifonics somehow made the Brutus series more efficient.

My HU is 4.5v does this matter? What about if I got a bigger battery would it get the volts needed??

i have a 1606D and a 130A(More like 127A rated) Alternator.

At full swing set upf or about 1300WRMS along with A/B Amp pushing 125WRMS my lights would dim BAD.

Doing the big three now.

What size battery do you have? Have you had it bench tested(1606D)??

Ok....question from my part...mine holds up decent enough for now usually stays above 12.5 volts at a redlight bumping hard. But would a 200amp (have 140stock) keep it around 14 at all times?

Is it true in general stock alternators are not ment for amps(especially powerful)? Local shop said whatever stock amp says does around 25% less(while running)??

I have a 105a alt and a 1605D and I get a little dimming on lights when driving but it dims noticably @ idle, but not totally. I;ve run up to a P2250D and a 4.400 on stock alt no real problems.

So if you had 105 an mines is 130, I should get less dimming than you right? When you say idle engine off or at rest?

Like OP stated, there are radios with higher power output. Most radios have around 18 watts RMS per channel. They mostly claim 50w per channel but...
