Surface area has nothing to do with spl. Displacement does..
Im willing to make a little wager on 4 RE8's ported vs. 2 Comp VR's sealed...

whoa i jus thought of somethin. 4 TENS!!!!!!!..........re10's that is...but are they even out and if they arent when will they be out. cosiderin the eights can be put in a 0.25 sealed box the 10 inch versions probly could go with 0.5 maybe??????i have got about 2.2 cu.ft. to work with and this would be perfect. man would that wang....oh yea i dont wanna go the ported route....i'm makin the box and i'm only 16 so i aint the greatest at math and i jus like the tite sound of sealed since i like to listen to rock as well as rap and even country sometimes......any info on those re10's

RE lists .83 cubes for a RE10. You could probably do a LITTLE less, but then you have to take into consideration the subs displacement, which will make the airspace amount even smaller.

Ported is not as hard as you think. Contact http://www.gnomeaudio.com and he could whip up some plans for you for i think $5-10.
