Just Finished up my first system coax system with an amp. 4 Infinity 9603ix's on a sundown sax100.4 ran by a Pio DEH-80PRS.
So I throw on some rock/alternative music, set the DEH to flat and 3/4 volume and raise the gain on the SAX, higher, higher, higher... Raised the gain all the way up on the amp and there was still no distortion. So I figured its good to go, right?
Couple hours later I take my freshly finished Jeep project out and throw on something a little more bass heavy (Gramatik) and crank it up just loud enough to hear it while i was rolling down the highway with no top on the jeep (so relativity loud). After about 5 seconds I hear a bunch of crackling and popping followed by the unmistakable smell of voice coils burning out.
These 6x9s have 100w RMS rating. Did I really blow all 4 of these by having the gain too far up?
So my first coax system lasted all of 5 minutes....
Are there any other 6x9s you guys can recommended that will take 100w RMS well? Im assuming this was 100% due to me having the gain all the way up and then cranking the volume? I just cant believe they blew so fast. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.
