Tangled Up in Blue
First of all, there's plenty of people who need to design Zobel networks, if you're designing your own speakers. I recently passed the FCC's Extra amateur radio exam, and I had to learn how to calculate complex impedances and plot RLC circuits using polar coordinates. Do any EE's even do that outside of college-level courses anymore? I highly doubt it. But as to understanding what a modern tool like SPICE is telling you, it can be useful...
If you're saying the test should be revised to keep up with advances in technology, I can agree with that. But learning the theory behind the electronics is what it's about...otherwise, how are you expected to implement all the fancy, new stuff?
In summary, stop whining.
