I told my buddy I'd help him out with this. he has a trailblazer, aftermarket jvc head unit and stock speakers all around. I'm having a hard time figuring out what's the problem here ... his right door woofer and tweeter only work like one day once a month. the rest work fine all the time. what could be the problem

Have you tried *anything* to troubleshoot this? If so, please tell us what you've tried so we don't have to retread a bunch of ground here.

not yet. I'm not really sure how to go about this, haven't had time to look at it so I just wanted to hear some pointers before I start digging into his car

im not sure how stock components work. If both the right woofer and tweeter are cutting in and out. Could be a loose connection somewhere. Is there some kind of crossover that splits the signal? could be a bad crossover. Honestly, any time ive had speakers cutting in and out. Its either A: something to do with wiring. Loose wire, rubber jacket rubbed off and shorting, spade connectors on speakers not making a full connection, ect. B: bad channel on Hu/amp(stock or aftermarket).

The first thing to do is trace out the speaker wiring from the head unit to the right door woofer/tweeter. There is likely a short or a loose connection somewhere along the line.

The factory tweeter is *probably* wired to the woofer with a single in-line capacitor. There is probably one speaker wire from the woofer to the headunit. You will likely find a bad connection either behind the head unit where that speaker wire is spliced into the head unit harness, or where it connects to the back of the woofer.

Had this problem in my dad's truck, just open up the dash and check all the connections for the speaker leads, the manual for the HU will tell you exactly which wires are the right side speakers, the woofer and tweeter should be wired up together with an internal crossover. In my case, the wire just got knocked loose from the HU when he went over a bump, so I crimped all the connections for good measure. This problem can be common if you use electrical tape to splice all your wires together, try to use wire nuts or crimping pieces to make a solid connection.

Yes. Only thing is the leads will be encased in resin. Keep in mind that this is an assumption.

I agree with every one above. OFC is much better. Copper is a much better conductor than aluminum.

Speaker ratings are generally a thermal/mechanical limitation of the drivers. Music is dynamic, not continuous. During quiet periods a song, you...
