Im trying to tweak some settings on my Pioneer 780 that will give the best mid bass. Right now, I have none. I have the HPF set at 80hz, and a HP slope of -6db. If I set the slope to the "Pass" setting, the mids put out too much mid bass and it makes a slapping noise. How would I go about setting it so that it puts out some decent amount of mid bass, but not too much that will cause the mid to distort?

eq boosts cause distortion, but will give better midbass. try the 120hz range.

crossover the mid lower, but your headunit prolly wont let you.
