I run an active front stage and haven't ran over 500 watts to a sub in over 4 years...I'd say I'm leaning towards the SQ side of things nowadays. Loudness is irrelevant, and my single 10" sub can easily get louder than I need it to.

 
I like SQL. Center image, midbass that can keep up, nice depth, all while putting up 145 on the TL. Anymore than that and you have to really start messing with electrical and it starts getting tough having a frontstage that can keep up while retaining SQ.

I'm a little more towards the SQ side of things now due to space but if the 2 JL 8w7s on 1400wrms don't satisfy me than I'll be adding 8's or going with 10's.

 
I'm a SQL guy. Love to crank it loud when some songs come on, but what's the purpose of being loud if it sounds horrible?
