Recommend me a sub

u have one of the best sql subs built. i dunno why u got something else, ur wasting ur money, cuz the jls will pry sound the best and get the lowest.

by no means am i a JL fanboy, but ppl gotta admit that they are a very nice sub. Theres no reason to get something else, when u already have one of the best.

The box for two 8W7's is too big. They sound great and get plenty loud, but they don't get very low. I need a smaller box (so I can use my trunk again), one that will play lower, and only needs one amp.

I'm excited about the Mag. I'll report a review once it is in. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Be sure to lightly stuff the enclosure with polyfill (pillow stuffing) and you should be good to go. What size box are you using the Mag in?

*edit* 400 watts will be plenty on the Mag. I think you'll be pleased with the output.

I'll have the box built to spec. 1 cu ft, right? That'll leave me plenty of room in the trunk, me thinks.

well u shoulda built a smaller sealed box for both of them or build a ported box for just one. Sell the 2 amps and get one. solves ur problem without having to buy something new.

He's right, you cannot beat the sound quality of a JL sub!! A 12w6 would sound great in there! No matter what sub u go with make sure u adjust the crossover so that u get the sound u are looking for!

You've never heard a better sub than a JL, you must live under a rock. That or in a really small town.

I respect that opinion, but what other subs have you used?

I think the 8W7 is a fantastic sub and while I haven't heard any other 8" in my car, I have a hard time believing that there are many that are much better. It gets loud and remains clean.

I was looking for one sub that was efficient with 400 watts, sealed enclosure of around 1 cu ft, with a shallow depth, and at least the same output as the two 8"s.

For what it's worth, I did consider the 12W7, but it weights about 20 lbs more than the Mag and $350 more. Price wasn't really a factor but mounting depth was... the JL needs 9.5" while the Mag needs 5.5". The only other sub I seriosly considered was the IDMax. I am so pleased with their CXS-64 components that I felt their sub would be great too. But the IDMax has similar issues as the 12W7.

Another reason I went with the Mag is the online participation in these forums. Same reason I chose Sundown for my amps. Electrodynamic and Sundownz are easily available and I like supporting small businesses.

I just wish JL's new HD900/5 am was out. I really only want one amp for everything.

thanks DB, that definitely helps swallowing a $300 price tag 😂 these would essentially be running midbass for me too
