Hardest hitting subwoofer? " When wired right of course!

Smaller drivers typically have a smaller xmax, and are able to respond quicker due to simple physics. Cone mass is smaller, and therefore can move quicker. If driver size doesn't matter, why not run 15's for mids? With 8's you trade off super low extention for faster response. This has been MY experience.

Wrong answer.

Mms has nothing to do with "woofer speed". Inductance, on the other hand, does.

Mms is going to affect sensitivity, but not "speed". I can make a 15" sub play 15khz if the inductance allows it.

In car audio, having a mid that size just isn't practical due to space restrictions.

Nope. Sorry.

8's may have less low frequency extension than larger subs due to their limited displacement. But that doesn't mean they inherently have better high frequency response. And if they do, it isn't a result of their smaller cone size, but rather some other factors.

You can state "your experience" all you want. It doesn't make your observations accurate, or simply shows that you don't understand the reasons behind why you are hearing what you are.

Wouldn't smaller driver sizes have higher freq. response?
Maybe, maybe not.

Depends on the design and what use the driver was intended for.

There are 6" subs that sound like poop much over 125-150hz because of their design.

Likewise, there are 12" drivers that can play up to ~1khz and more with ease, because of their design

You can not draw any accurate conclusions about a driver based solely off of it's cone diameter.

I would, given that I just got bich slapped by someone more knowledgable.

Hmm, let's see. A 15" woofer can easily move at 50 cycles correct? Well, then we could assume that say a 1" tweeter can easily move at 20,000 cycles correct? Can the same be said for the 15" woofer? We could also assume that is the tweeter easily moves at this rate, then slowing it down to only 50 cycles would be no problem correct? Why can my tweeters not produce an audible 50Hz tone?//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/tongue.gif.6130eb82179565f6db8d26d6001dcd24.gif

This was my logic. I guess I'm just confused and my experience means nothing? Maybey I have never heard a well executed car audio system with 15's that I liked. I never said they don't exist, I've just never seen one in person.

Can the same be said for the 15" woofer?
If the inductance allowed for it, yes.

Beaming would be a ***** at 20khz, however.

Not enough displacement //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Im sorry, but you can state all the exceptions you want about 15 inch drivers, in general, smaller drivers will play the higher freq. better than larger woofers. I would like to see some actual applications where this is not the case.

I really should stop with the sarcasm.

I did make you think though. Now finding the answer(s) will be the fun part. Those links Jim posted are awesome info BTW.

Phase plugs would be a necessity. Hell, they're almost required for the Lowther and Fostex 8" drivers lest they sound like a honking duck off-axis.

Have you modeled that sub in your airspace/tuning to see what predicted frequency response is?

That does sound similar to what mine does, I'll take a video and post it this weekend so you guys can weigh in.

Google and Ebay are your friends. Froma quick search and providing these are like new, $2- $400 for the subs and $2- $400 for the amplifiers...
